Abstract
257,299. Steele, L. C. March 25, 1925. Rolling.-Sheets are rolled in a single roll-stand from heated bars, the work being maintained, throughout the process, clear of the mill floor. A single pair of furnaces 2, 3 is worked in alternation, the bars issuing from the furnace in use on to a roller table 6 which conveys the heated bars to rolls 7. The sheet passes to a catcher 8 comprising a stationary skid 9 for receiving the sheet and a continuously rotating pivoted carrier 10 which elevates the sheet, and, in co-operation with a carrier 11 delivers it over the upper roll to a roller table 12<a>, which in turn re-introduces the sheet to the front of the rolls. When the required reduction of thickness has been effected, the sheet is passed by way of rolls 13 to a lateral carrier 16 which elevates the sheet to a platform 17 where it is doubled or is matched with another sheet, ready for passage to the non-working furnace 3 by way of a table 18 and inclined roller table 19. The prooees is repeated, the metal being brought to double thickness each time it arrives at the station 17. A doubling machine may be located at the platform 17.
