Abstract
256,933. Wittek, H. Aug. 12, 1925, [Convention date]. Tar oils, extracting.-Neutral oils are extracted from substantially paraffin-free tars, tar oils, and pitches by agitating with paraffin oil, petroleum distillates, or other oil composed mainly of paraffin hydrocarbons a solution of the tar &c. in a solvent not miscible with the paraffin oil. Solvents specified are ethyl alcohol, wood spirit, acetone, and mixtures of alcohol with benzol or carbon tetrachloride. The layers formed on standing are separated, washed with water, and distilled to separate the solvents, oils, and' phenol. The extraction may take place under heat or pressure or in the vapour phase, and may be repeated.
