Abstract

256,367. Turner Bros. Asbestos Co., Ltd., and Turner, R. H. June 18, 1925. Spray carburettors. - A combined air filter and silencer consists of a light sheet metal structure which in section is of Maltese cross formation and is formed of five truncated pyramids a soldered or otherwise secured together to produce an approximately cubical structure, the fifth pyramid being at the top. The small ends are directed inwardly to a central chamber the outlet e from which is connected directly or indirectly to the carburettor air intake. The base of each pyramid has a flange a<1> which supports a filtering medium consisting for example of alternate layers of asbestos or other cellular cloth b<1> and wire gauze b held by rivets in sheet metal frames c with outside flanges c<1>. The four side frames are secured by U-shaped pieces of wire c<3>, Fig. 2, engaging doubled strips of metal c<2> and the top frame by a pin c<6>, Fig. 1, passing through metal loops c', c<5> on the top frame and two adjacent side frames respectively. Within each pyramid a baffling pyramid d, louvres or the like are secured, and such pyramids may be grooved helically. The whole structure may be supported by looped wires g and an air strangler or valve may be employed.
