Abstract
255,952. Rath, A. J. April 30, 1925. Balance geating with three or more planet gears is arranged in an undivided casing with a peripheral aperture or apertures through which all the gears and spider parts are passed in assembling. In Figs. 1 and 2 is shown a form with four planet gears f<1> - - f<4> threaded on two cross spindles k, k<2>, the latter passing through a boss k<1> on the former. There is a single aperture adapted to be closed by a plug g, this aperture having extension h, h' to allow the larger sun gears d to be inserted. The crosspin k fits into a hole in the plug g and at the other end engages a hole in a spherical boss j<3> upon the casing a. The pin k<2> fits in holes in spherical bosses j<2>, j<4> in the casing and the plug g is spherically recessed for the gear f<1>. The sun gears are first assembled and then the planet gears one by one 90‹ apart, such planet gears being carried away from the aperture by the spherical bosses until in position for the cross pins k, k<1> to be inserted. Lynch pins l lock the ends of the cross pins. A form with a rigid threearmed spider n is shown in Fig. 4. The main aperture closed by the plug g has extensions h, h<1> long enough to allow the spider to be inserted, and the lower planet gears f<1> are inserted through separate smaller apertures closed by plugs g<1>. The spherical seatings for the planet gears are not required in such a case. A form with a rigid four-armed spider is constructed on similar lines.
