Cracking nuts.-A nut-cracking machine comprises a fixed lower jaw 12, a relatively-inclined and movable upper jaw 11 carried by a reciprocating slide 8, and eccentric means between the slide 8 and the driving-shaft 3 for actuating the slide. An eccentric pin 9 on the forward end of the shaft 3 engages a bush 10 in the slide 8 and reciprocates the slide in removable guides 7 on the standard 2. The faces of the parts 11, 12 may be formed of steel or other metal or hard fibre and are preferably removable, being secured by screws &c. Means may be provided for adjusting the eccentric driving-means so as to vary the travel of the slide 8.
