Abstract

Pleating. - The lower roller of a pleating machine has superposed on the usual rotation ior the formation of pleats an additional rocking motion of varying amount between two consecutive pleats by means of a pawl and ratchet device, the pawl being, when desired, held out of operation. As shown, a pawl 9 on a carrier 4 connected by a link 7 to a rocking link 5 engages a ratchet wheel 3 on the lower roller for intermittent rotation of the roller but is capable of being lifted out of operation either by a roller 10 or set screw 24 engaging a tail piece 12 on the pawl. The roller 10 is carried by a pivoted arm 11 which may be operated by a spring pressed rod 14 pivoted at 15 and provided with a roller 19 capable of contacting with eccentric rollers 17 on a cam 16. Some of the rollers 17 are shown in the operative and others in the inoperative position, the lever 14 being moved from the position shown when it engages an operative roller to a position in which the pawl engages its ratchet wheel. The link 7 may be adjusted to vary the throw of the pawl by means of a screwed rod 21 or by means of a cam engaging a roller.
