Inking - apparatus; damping - apparatus for lithographic machines.- In inking or damping- apparatus for rotary printing machines in which the inking or damping roller can be held periodically or continuously in engagement, with the plate cylinder, the roller 13, Fig. 1, is carried by a rocking lever 11 operated by a bar 9 with which engages a cam-actuated rod 4 which can be turned about the shaft 2 carrying the actuating-cam 3 into an inoperative, position to allow the roller 13 to be held continuously against the plate cylinder 15 by the spring 14. In one form, Fig. 1, the rod reciprocates in a casing 1 pivoted on the shaft 2 and operable by a handle 20 carrying a catch 22 co-operating with a toothed segment 21. In a second form, Fig. 3, the rod 4 is pivoted on a shaft 30 carried by arms 31 pivoted on the shaft 2.
