Abstract

253,854. Lilienfeld, L. June 17, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 231,806. Yarns and threads, treating with liquids, gases, and vapours.-Artificial textile materials such as viscose silk, cuprammonia silk, denitrated nitrosilk. and acetate silk, are improved as regards their strength by treatment with a solution of a cellulose thiourethane in which at least one hvdrogen atom of the amino group is replaced by an alcohol radical; the preparations of and the manner of using such solution is described in the parent case and in 'Specifications 231,801. 248,246, [both in Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], and 248,994. The material may be treated when in the form of threads, skeins, cops, &c., consisting of artificial textile material alone or mixed, with cotton, silk, wool, &c. The cellulose thiourethane solution may be applied by passage of the material therethrough, or by spraying, or by contact with moistened rollers, or by other methods; and the material may be passed through one or more pairs of rollers, or otherwise pressed, in order to distribute the solution uniformly. The impregnated material is afterwards treated with a precipitating agent or is dried preferably at a raised temperature, the method selected depending on the character of the solvent employed in making the original solution; or a combination of these methods may be employed. The material may be stretched during the impregnation process or afterwards, for instance, during the drying at a raised temperature. To render the treated material highly flexible it may be treated with the vapours of a solvent for the thiourethane or of an agent that imparts plasticity, for instance, to the vapours of aqueous pyridine.
