Abstract

252,291. Murray, T. B., and Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd. May 22, 1925. Controlling variable - speed gearing. - In selector control mechanism comprising a control lever 1 pivoted on a pin 2 and adapted to swing transversely in a trunnion block 3, the trunnion block is formed integrally with arms 5, 6 on opposite sides of the lever 1. the ends of which arms present locking fingers 7, 8 to engage the change-speed rod or rods adjacent the rod selected by the lever. The rods 10, 11, 12 may be locked also by plungers 14, Fig. 1. The lever 1 may be operated directly by hand as in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, when a spherical cap 15 closes the control box. A form adapted for " distant " control on a vehicle is shown in Fig. 5. In this the lever 1 has a ball end engaged by a crank on a shaft 20 which is constrained to slide for the selector movement by the lower end of a hand lever 16 being made to move between fixed guides 18, 19. A gate 17 guides the lever 16 and a spring 21 damps vibration.
