Controlling variable-speed gearing.- Control mechanism for change-speed gearing suitable for vehicles comprises a hand lever f, Fig. 2, adapted to be moved in a transverse slot in a gate a so as to engage either of two transmission levers z singly. The engaged lever g is subsequently moved in slot b or slot c in the plane of Fig. 1 so as to operate either of two rods 9, Fig. 4. 'The lever f carries a cross peg k, which in the neutral position shown in Fig. 2 engages the transmission levers simultaneously. The pivot ends of the levers g are pressed together by springs h and are kept apart by a distance piece j and washers i. The pivot end of lever f is formed with swells f<1> at both sides to facilitate the selective lateral pivoting. The rods 9, Fig. 4, operate striking levers p, z. The lever p has a notched quadrant p<1> engaged by a locking-lever v pulled against it by a suitable spring w. The lever z has a similar quadrant 7 and locking pawl 8 actuated by a suitable spring.
