251,974. Newport Co., (Assignees of Gubelmann, I., and Goodrich, R. J.). May 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Anthraquinone-#-sulphonic acid is isolated from the mass obtained by sulphonating anthraquinone by forming the ammonium salt. The mass is dissolved in water, filtered, and concentrated aqueous ammonia is added until slightly alkaline. The solution is heated to 90‹ C. for one hour and allowed to cool, when the ammonium salt crystallizes out or it may be precipitated by the addition of soluble ammonium salts.
