Abstract

251,587. Eclancher, J. V. May 1, 1925, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Alternating-current induction machines; exciting.-For obtaining a distribution of magnetomotive force as nearly sinusoidal as possible in a self-excited or separately-excited synchronous machine started asynchronously, the secondary winding acts as field winding and is connected in delta for three-phase, but for two-phase, the phases are unequal and the larger alone is supplied with continuous current. In the case of a separately-excited machine, the starting rheostat is arranged to cut out all resistance before the field circuit of the exciter is closed. In the case of other polyphase secondary windings, the phases must be arranged in three or two groups. Secondary windings of the type employed in the known " G÷rges " motor may be employed in order to introduce the continuous-current, excitation only at the end of the starting-up operation and in this case a smaller starter or a shortcircuiting switch may replace the usual starter.
