Abstract

251,322. Molins, W. E. Dec. 31, 1924. Cigarette-tipping machines.-Means for applying cork or like tips to a web of cigarette paper, for example in a continuous-rod machine, comprise a roller 2 having a rectangular intaglio engraving on its periphery fed with gum or other adhesive so as to imprint at intervals on the paper web 1 constant amounts of gum, surplus gum being wiped from the roller 2 by a blade 2<a>. The web, after passing between the roller 2 and. a pressure roller 7, is taken over a roller 12 so that the gummed portions come uppermost and receive the end of a cork web 17 fed at a slower speed by rollers 13, 14. The cork is then pressed on to the paper web by a roller 18 and is cut off at the required length by a rotary cutter 16 as described in Specification 263,964. The roller 2 receives gum from a roller 4 dipping into a bath 3. The rollers 12, 14 may be lowered by a handle 27 for inserting new webs.
