Abstract

Spindle-driving apparatus.-The spindles 6, Fig. 2, of a spinning or doubling frame are driven through a connection 16 from the spindles of friction rollers 5 which are actuated by friction discs 2 on the shaft 1 and can be shifted to forward, reverse, or stopping position. The roller spindles are carried by levers which are pivoted to a rail 7. and comprise axially-movable spring- pressed portions 8, 8<1>. Each member 8 carries a roller 10 which slides in a groove 11 in the member 8<1> and engages either side or the recessed apex of a triangular cam-plate 12 fixed to the rail 7 so as to hold the roller in engagement with one or other or neither of adjacent discs 2. An adjustable rail is provided to prevent accidental reversing during spinning. The rollers 5 may be cylindrical or conical. In a modification, the spindle is mounted in the usual rigid support, and the roller 5 can be shifted axially with or on the spindle between friction faces 18, Fig. 5, manually or by the knocking-off motion. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the roller 5 is driven indirectly from the disc 2 by a shaft 22 which can be shifted axially in its bearing 23 or swivelled with its bearing to stop the spindle either by hand or automatically.
