Alternating-current motors; conductors; cores. -The laminated rotor core 1 of an alternating- current motor is provided with a set of slots 2 near the periphery and a second set of slots 3 nearer the centre, and metal members are cast in the two sets of slots, those in the outer slots being integral with end-rings to form a squirrelcage winding, and those in the inner slots being separated from each other and from the endrings. The apertures 3 in the laminae are preferably larger than the apertures 2 and are punched so that the slot sides are slightly irregular, and into these irregularities the cast metal enters. The bars in the slots 3 therefore serve to clamp the laminae together, and further they are located at such a depth that very little flux is linked with them. The core is secured between the end-members 5, 6 of a revoluble mould, and molten aluminium or other metal which is poured in through the opening 10 at the top fills the slots 2, 3 and the end-ring grooves 9. After cooling, the metal of the end-rings adjacent the slots 3 is removed by machining so that the ends of the bars in these slots are flush with the ends of the core.
