Abstract

The disclosed invention describes new equipment to be used in the handling of thin foil strips. The new equipment grips the foil (8) via a suction grid (4) and lifts the protruding end (9) of the foil strip into a substantially horizontal position which is advantageous for threading into subsequent machinery. Both the suction and lifting action are affected by the same stream of high velocity air. Additionally, a combination handling equipment is described where suction grid assemblies are alternated with conventional sucker assemblies across the width of the head, enabling foil and thin strip of all usual thicknesses to be handled effectively. The new equipment is intended to be utilised in conjunction with existing translating machinery in order to feed thin foil automatically from the coil to the bite of a rolling mill or other processing machinery.
