A more or less rigid plate d of zinc or fibre covers the tops of the columns c. In the case of an arch support, Fig. 8, an arched metal instep support g bears on rubber columns c secured in a leather or like band h attached to the insole with or without similarly secured heelsupporting columns c on the insole.
