246,879. Silver Springs Bleaching & Dyeing Co., Ltd., and Hall, A. J. July 31,1924. Yarns &c., treating with liquids. - The lustre of textile materials composed wholly or partly of cellulose acetate, is preserved in processes such as bleaching, dyeing, printing, and steaming, which processes involve the use of temperatures above 85‹ C., by effecting the treatment in the presence of a solution of a protective salt of an adequate concentration which usually lies between 10-30 per cent strength. Salts mentioned areammonium bromide, chloride, chromate, oxalate, sulphate nitrate, and phosphate; alum; sodium bichromate, sulphate, phosphate, nitrite, bisulphite, acetate, thiosulphate, ferrocyanide, chlorate, nitrate, chloride, sulphate, hydrosulphite, bromide, and tartrate; calcium chloride; cadmium chloride; copper sulphate; chrome and iron alums; ferrous ammonium sulphate; strontium chloride; potassium chromate ferrocyanide, sulphate, chloride, sulphite, nitrate, oxalate, phosphate, and nitrite; zinc sulphate; barium chloride; magnesium chloride, sulphate, and nitrate; aluminium chloride. The process is applicable to the treatment of union fabrics, as for example the dyeing or otherwise treating of the other fibres present in the fabrics, for example, the cotton, linen, wool or silk; it is applicable to the discharging of dyed cellulose acetate fabrics, and to the production or relief of latent strains in cellulose acetate fabrics or products; but the application of the process to treatments involving saponification of the cellulose acetate, is excluded.
