Abstract

246,627. Talbot, B. Dec. 5, 1924. Open-hearth furnaces; hearths.- The hearth of a metallurgical furnace is provided at one or more points along its length with transverse upward bulges such as v, and in a side wall, opposite to and on a level with each bulge, is a tap-hole p. The bulges may be of different heights, and may extend across the hearth or may be confined to the region of the tap-hole. When the furnace is of considerable width the tap-hole p, and the opening r through which manipulations are effected, may be situated in re-entrant portions of the furnace wall, as described in Specification 246,628. The furnace is of the tilting type with end baths described in Specification 235,346.
