Abstract

245,895. Bailey, H. Nov. 28, 1924. Vacuum tubes.-The valve socket a and rheostat c, Fig. 1, are combined together in one piece of apparatus which is attached to a panel G by a single-hole fixing F, the valve socket and rheostat being arranged behind the panel with the operating means for the rheostat in front. The rheostat may comprise a flattened helical coil of wire wound on a portion a<2> of the insulated block A, as shown in section in Fig. 1, in which case the resistance is controlled by a contact finger K attached to a spindle k connected with the operating knob J, or it may comprise a coil of wire wound on a cylindrical portion C<1> of the block A, as shown in Fig. 6, the resistance being changed either by direct push and pull on a contact finger L connected with the operating knob l<1>, or by moving a contact finger along the resistance by a rotary movement of the knob l<1>.
