Abstract

242,041. Brigham, C. E. Sept. 24, 1924. Magnetic i n s t r u - m e n t s.-An electromagnetic sound-reproducer, more particularly o f the loudspeaker type, comprises a diaphragm 5 mounted in a casing 1 and connected by a member 26 to the opposite ends of a freely floating armature 23 which is positioned within the hollow core of an electromagnet winding 24 and also between the pole faces 18, 19, 20 and 21 of the permanent magnet 6. The member 26 may be replaced by a pair of links, one on each side of the electromagnet. The permanent magnetic means is composed of the horseshoe magnet 6 to the poles 9. 10 of which are secured pole pieces 30, 31, pole members 14, 15 and 16, 17 being secured on opposite sides of the pole pieces 30, 31 respectively. Each pole member has a corner cut out at the end thereof, to form flat pole faces 20, 19, 21 and 18 respectively, the pole members being so arranged that the pair of pole faces of similar polarity are diagonally positioned with respect to the pole faces of the pair of pole members of opposite polarity.
