Description

24 1 6660 - 1 - NEW FISHING BAIT, AND STORAGE AND PACKAGING DEVICE FOR
SUCH BAIT
Application domain of the invention This invention relates to the domain of fishing or pisciculture and applies more particularly to products intended to form bait for catching fish. It also relates to products that will be used in the composition of ground bait that incorporates such bait, to attract fish to a predetermined fishing area.
Description of prior art
Bait is a food product composed of an organic or inorganic matter, presented to the fish to catch it. Bait is broken down into two main categories. The first category relates to natural bait that fish normally find in their own habitat (red worm, marsh worm, tree seeds, insect larva, etc.) and the second category relates to habituation bait that fish get used to (hemp seed, wheat, corn, etc.). Bait can be used alone as a decoy, in other words attached to the hook at the bottom of a fishing line or as a ground bait, in other words thrown into the water to attract fish to it.
A distinction is also made between animal bait that is aimed particularly at carnivorous fish and vegetable bait particularly for non-carnivorous fish.
It is important to realise that fishermen rather than fish have preferred bait; fish might very well accept one bait one day and then refuse it another day. Therefore, it is necessary to have a sufficiently appetising and attractive bait to hope that good results will be obtained.
The most frequently used baits for so-called still fishing are: - maggots, - red worms, mold worms, marsh worms, - seeds: sweet corn, wheat, hemp seeds, chick peas, - 2 green peas, barley, buckwheat, lupin, peanuts, etc. The purpose of this invention is particularly seed type vegetable baits, particularly for fishing non- carnivorous fishes such as carp. Although seeds are small in size, they give good results and are essential for this type of fishing. Vegetable bait always has been and still is one of the best ground bait bases for fishing carp. The conventional strategy for this type of fishing consists of making a ground bait bed made of seeds in order to bring together all the cyprinidae from the surroundings in the first few hours, including roach, bream, chub, etc. which due to their intense activity will not fail to attract carp.
Many seeds may be consumed by carp, but they are often sold in the form of dry seeds (which means that aromas can be added when soaking to reinforce their efficiency), they have to be soaked for at least twenty four hours before cooking, which takes at least an hour in order to facilitate their digestion by the fish.
Therefore to be a good vegetable bait, a seed for fishing non-carnivorous fish must: - be appetising, so that it is attractive to fish, - not become rancid so that it does not become repulsive, - be easy to digest by the fish, - have a pronounced taste that the fish to be caught will find attractive without having a strong nutrient value that could spoil the fish's appetite when it is used as ground bait, - have a certain consistency so that it will stay attached to the hook when it is used as decoy to make a perfect lure, and to assure good dilution when it is used as ground bait, - etc. The applicants thought of using a new type of bait designed to be fixed to a hook like a decoy or thrown into - 3 - the water as ground bait for fishing non-carnivorous fish, this new bait having been discovered accidentally and satisfying all points in the specification mentioned above.
According to the invention, this type of vegetable bait consists of a germinated fermented seed that is more attractive for non-carnivorous fish than baits known at the present time. This germinated fermented seed, preferably derived from a cereal, used as a bait or ground bait for fishing is the embryo of the seed that will become the plant and is therefore a fully natural product.
Compared with seeds according to prior art that are necessarily used "cooked", germinated fermented seeds according to the invention used "raw" offer many advantages since they are: - new as bait or ground bait, flexible in use, both as bait or ground bait, - immediately ready for use since they do not require any soaking or cooking phase for preparation of the bait, - have a significantly better potential and durability than conventional bait, - an unequalled wealth of vitamins (which are fragile in cooking), trace elements and vegetable proteins and particularly amino acids (that are unstable during cooking and are destroyed at between 35 C and 100 C), - very easy to assimilate due to their fermentation, - etc. According to a first category of germinated fermented seeds particularly useful for fishing white fish, the applicants selected seeds from wheat, oats, hemp seeds, sorghum, canola seed, oil poppy, beans, corn, lapin, green peas, chick peas, tiger nuts and / or peanuts, etc., although this list is not exhaustive.
These seeds are particularly suitable for catching fresh water fish in the cyprinidae family.
The invention also consists of associating the - 4 - natural appetising essence of germinated fermented seeds with components that can also have effects, for example visual effects to attract fish or to associate them with components with excipient, agglomerating effects, retardant of dissolution in water, etc. For example it - additives in the form of powders and / or flours such as molasses (red cane sugar), or glucose (powder), natural food colouring agents, different sugars and assimilated products (saccharose, fructose, honey, saccharine, thaumatine, dextrose), or aromatic flours (aniseed, star anise, cinnamon, ginger, juniper) etc., it obviously being understood that this list of additives is given non exhaustively, - with additives in the form of liquids or oils such as simple syrup such as glycerol, sorbitol, maltitol, or vegetable and animal oils (hazelnut oil, walnut, cod liver oil, sardine oil, olive oil, or essential oils (mint, orange, mandarin, cinnamon, ginger), or liquid molasses.
- etc., it obviously being understood that this list of additives is given non-exhaustively.
The applicants also imagined possible transformations of germinated fermented seeds according to the invention by grinding them to extract the substrate from them, or for making flours from germinated fermented seeds or to mix them with other flours.
The invention also relates to packaging of these germinated fermented seeds for conservation and use under optimum conditions for fishing. Germination and fermentation are processes that are difficult to control, which makes the production of several types of germinated seeds and also their packaging difficult. Germination times are different depending on the plant species and once germination has started, it is difficult to stop it without completely isolating the seeds by creating an anaerobic medium at controlled temperature. Similarly, fermentation of the said mix, for example by inoculation of a lactic ferment which has the purpose of improving conservation of the mix by lowering the pH, also has consequence of producing gas compounds that must be evacuated, which makes it more difficult to create the above-mentioned anaerobic medium.
The product obtained is actually a mix of germinated seeds fermented by bacteria but for which the qualities remain changeable as a function of their aeration and their storage temperature. Consequently, storage and packaging of such food mixes create a particularly difficult problem to solve, particularly for use as fish bait.
Starting from this fact, the applicants designed a device for packaging fish bait for fish of the type consisting of germinated fermented seeds that eliminate problems of controlling storage and conservation.
According to the invention, the storage and packaging device consists of a drum with an external plastic casing containing the said fermented bait based on germinated seeds and equipped with a valve through which gas produced by fermentation can pass, the said drum being closed by a lid through which the inside of the said drum can be filled and accessed. The use of a valve has the advantage that it allows the passage of gas in a single direction. Thus, gas produced by fermentation can be evacuated without increasing the temperature of the germinated fermented seeds and without the said seeds coming into contact with ambient air thus preventing loss of the anaerobic atmosphere and therefore resumption of germination. Thus, due to the drum according to the invention that will be small, for example in the form of a fisherman's bucket (and / or any packaging in the form of plastic bags with a degassing system and / or small holes), germinated cereals keep their food properties indefinitely until they are used at the fishing site. For - 6 - manufacturers and / or suppliers of this type of bait, the possibility of storing the bait in larger drums and under good conditions without affecting their qualities, provides them with more flexibility and avoids the normal just-in-time flows. Therefore the manufacturer can satisfy a larger demand, and not need to worry about losing his unsold stock.
It is obvious that a degassing valve acting as valve disk could be made by making a hole on the lid or on the drum casing.
According to one particularly advantageous characteristic adapted to this embodiment, the said lid controlling opening and closing of the drum is fitted with sealing means to guarantee the seal and to satisfy the main function of maintaining the anaerobic atmosphere created by the fermentation of seeds in the drum. These sealing means are materialized by a seal that is inserted at the contact surface of the lid with the cylindrical surface formed by the drum.
The bait made from germinated fermented seeds according to the invention is intended mainly to facilitate fishing of white fish such as carp in ponds, lakes, or first or second category water courses, but it could also be used for feeding of farm fish depending on its size grading and its composition. - 7 -
