Abstract

240,974. Hall, D., Kay, J. H., and Hall & Kay, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1924. Air, moistening.-Air used in textile mills is humidified and purified from dust by being blown down a tube 5 of uniform cross-section on to a water surface surrounded by a grid 7 supported on a flange 6 of the tube 5 and extending below the water surface, the area of the spaces 8 of the grid above the surface being not less than the crosssectional area of the tube. The impact of the air on the water causes waves which are broken up by the grid to form spray through which the air passes. Baffle plates 10 are provided to intercept surplus moisture and dust not caught by the spray. The impurities settle to the bottom of the container 4 and are removed through an opening 12 having a hinged lid 13. The grid may also be supported from the sides or bottom of the container and its fingers may be of scalloped shape and bent inwards or outwards.
