Abstract

240,667. Langsdorf, W. Nov. 6, 1924. Ground augers. - A ground auger comprising a helically twisted plate or plates a has a blade d pivoted thereto so as normally to extend radially and cut a groove permitting passage of air from one side of the plate a to the other, the blade pivoting inwardly on reverse rotation of the auger, whereby a liner may be inserted in the bore-hole. A wider blade d<1> may be pivoted opposite the blade d. The blades d, d<1> are adjustable, having a number of holes adapted to receive the part f. The plate a may have an upturned rim, a cutter b on the leading edge, and a hinged plate c adapted to close the gap between the edges of the plate a during withdrawal of the tool. The plate a may be extended by plate segments secured at apertures g, and such segments may carry the blades d, d<1>. The second blade d' may be arranged on a carrier fixed to the stem of the auger above the plate a; an earth-receiving bracket in the form of an open-ended sleeve may then be arranged on the plate a and connected as at apertures g.
