Abstract

Fire-extinguishing by foam.-In a foam fireextinguisher of the kind described in Specification 210,639 having outer and inner receptacles 5, 8 for a salt solution and for foam-generating material respectively, to which water is admitted under pressure to displace the salt solution the receptacle 8 forms a closure for, and is readily removable from, an aperture 7 in the receptacle 5 to facilitate recharging. To this end a flange 9 of the vessel 8 is held on a seating 11 on the vessel 5 by a hinged cover 12 arranged to pivot about a hinge pin 16 and to be held in closed position by a pivoted bolt 18 and nut 20. The cover 12 carries a packing ring 21 to engage a rim on the vessel 8, and forms an outlet 23 communicating by a valve 24 with a discharge pipe 25. Water under pressure is admitted bv a pipe 26 and raises salt solution which enters the vessel 8 by apertures 22, foam being discharged bv the outlet 23. In a modification the salt solution enters the vessel 8 by means of a pipe arraned preferably centrally of the vessel 8 and provided with a spraying device. Several extinguishers may be arranged as a battery delivering to a common discharge pipe. The vessel 8 may be provided with a float similar to that described in the above-mentioned Specification. The Provisional Specification describes the arrangement wherein the cover 12 is wholly detachable and is held in place by a single screw on a hinged yoke.
