Abstract
239,962. Keetley, W. July 9, 1924, Turning ; sockets. - A tool-holder for use in a lathe, or in a drilling, milling or other machine carries means for sppporting a number of tools such as drills, milling - cutters, reamers, taps, cutter-bars &c. in such manner that they normally lie out of the operative position, but any one. may be swung into alignment with the work and locked there. The tools may be stationary or rotary. The stationary tools F may be mounted directly in sockets B or adaptors E may be used, the sockets being pivoted to lugs D on a central boss A secured to a lathe poppitspindle so that they may be swung individually to bring the tools into alignment with the boss A conical spigot G on each socket registers with a similar recess in the boss and is provided with a hole for engagement by a set-screw. When rotary tools are used the boss carries a rotatably mounted shaft for engagement with a drilling &c. machine spindle and the tools are mounted in rotary sleeves in the sockets, the sleeves being provided at one end with teeth which engage teeth on the shaft so as to be driven thereby. Rotation of the boss is prevented by a radial arm. The sockets B may be replaced by self-centreing chucks, or such chucks may be detachably mounted in the sockets.
