Abstract

239,883. Tellenbach, C. Sept. 15, 1924, [Convention date]. Cutting-up.-In a lathe for turning wood &c. the material is cut in the direction of the fibres so as to obtain long cuttings which may be used as wood wool. The work l, which need not be cut roughly to shape previously, is rotated between head and tail-stocks d, e, and is acted upon by cutters k mounted obliquely in a disc i rotated in a plane parallel to the work axis. The head and tail-stocks are carried by a plate b<2> rotatably adjustable for taper work on a slide b adjustable to and from the cutters by means of a hand-operated rack and pinion c. The rotary shaft g which carries the disc i may be mounted below the slide b, as shown, or in bearings situated behind the slide. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modified machine in which the cutter has a helical cutting-edge and rotates about an axis either parallel or inclined to the work axis. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
