Abstract

200,889. White & Sons, Ltd., T., and Christie, W. T. April 18, 1922. Cutters.-In wood-working machine tools of the type in which a cutter block is mounted on a rotatable arbor at a point intermediate of two bearings, the arbor is capable of withdrawal for removal of the cutter block without disturbing the bearings, which consist of ball races. In a four cutter planing machine, the cutter-block a is mounted on an arbor b by means of tapered collets or other means (not shown), the arbor being secured to the driving-spindle d by a tapered end c and a screw or other arrangement. The other end of the arbor carries a sleeve f which is stepped or otherwise formed so as to be withdrawn from a totally enclosed ball bearing g, and is provided with a squared or other end h for operating the connection with the driving-spindle. A hinged cover i or other device is provided for protecting the free end of the arbor. Where more than one cutter block is required they may be mounted on separate arbors or all on a single arbor.
