238,802. Brookes, A. J. C. March 10, 1925. Ball, roller, and thrust bearings.-In apparatus for lapping parallel slip and block gauges, a disc a is mounted on a vertical spindle 6 rotating within a multiple-race ball-bearing 7 in a sleeve 8, and is driven by gears 11 - - 14 from the driving-shaft 9. The balls are slightly larger in diameter than the space between the ball-race rings and the spindle so that the latter is held in elastic metallic contact with the bearings. The upper disc a may be raised for removal and insertion of the gauges by means of a cam 17 and handle 18, the spindle 6 having a range of vertical movement twice the amount of the clearance between the balls and the washers 20 separating the rings. The lapping disc A is driven by gears 15, 16 and rotates about a central spigot and roller-bearing 26, 27 on an annular bearing 25 formed on the upper side of a bearing block 4, similar to that described in Specification 166,248, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.].
