Abstract

238,426. Tutty, R. H. Nov. 19, 1924. Roller blinds, spring.-A hollow blind roller 6, with the usual operating spring 11 at one end thereof, is provided at the other end with a stem 12, held from rotation by its squared end 13 and having loosely mounted thereon a sleeve 15 maintained in frictional engagement with an enlargement 16 of the stem by a spring 20 adjusted by nuts 19. A spring 27 connects the sleeve 15 to another sleeve 14 secured to the roller 6, the arrangement being such that when the blind is pulled down the sleeve 14, in rotating, tightens the grip of the spring 27 upon the sleeve 15 which is thereby rotated against the frictional resistance due to the spring 20, which resistance is so proportioned with respect to the weighted end 5 and the operating spring 11 that the blind remains down when the pull is released. On raising the weighted end 5, the spring 11 rewinds the blind, the rotation of the sleeve 14 in this direction loosening the grip of the spring 27 upon the sleeve 15 which remains stationary. Leather &c. friction washers 18, 23, and 24 may be provided.
