Abstract
385,750. Window blinds. SCHMELZ, C. F., 211, State Street, and SMITH, W. F., 175, Cottage Street, both in Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A. Jan. 12, 1932, No. 950. [Class 52 (v).] In an arrangement of the kind in which the rotation of a blind roller is frictionally resisted in one direction, the resistance being automatically released when the roller is rotated in the other direction, a cord drum 36 coupled to the roller is rotatably mounted on the hollow hub 22 of a supporting bracket 21, means for frictionally resisting the rotation of the roller in one direction being disposed between the bracket hub 22 and the drum hub 25. In the construction shown, one end 32 of a brake band 33 is secured to the bracket hub 22 and engages frictionally the drum hub 25. The bracket hub consists of prongs 22a pressed from the material of the bracket. The drum is non-rotatably coupled -to the roller by a square ended pin 18 driven into the roller and engaging an aperture in an end plate 27 of the drum. When used for an existing spring roller the usual squared end of the spring shaft is engaged with the aperture in the end plate 27, one of the usual pawls being engaged with the spring shaft to render the spring inoperative. If necessary the pawl is secured in position by a spring clip. The prongs 22a may have outwardly directed ends engaging a groove in the end plate 27 of the drum to prevent the separation of the drum and the bracket. In a modification separation is prevented by a lug on the base of the bracket engaging over the flanges of the drum.
