Abstract

434,043. Roller blinds. WOODWARD,. R. H., 23, Legge Lane, Birmingham. June 14, 1934, No. 17586. [Class 52 (v)] A blind roller 12 is secured at one end, Fig. 2, to a sheet metal angle bracket 5 by an end cap 13 having an integral tapered boss 15 which carries a bush 18 in which a pivot pin 10, riveted to the circular projecting end of the bracket 5, is journalled. The end of the bush 18 which may be of gun-metal is riveted over to hold a disc 17 so that the operating cord of the blind can be wound on the boss 15, a projection 38, pressed from the bracket 5 preventing the cord working into the space between the disc and the bracket 5. The other end of the roller 12 carries an end cap 21, Fig. 3, in which is riveted a pivot pin 28 carrying a ratchet wheel 31 and journalled in a cup shaped cap 20 and in strips 22, 23 of bronze or other bearing material riveted to the cap 20. The strip 23 slides in a slot 19 in a second angle bracket 6 while the strip 22, which is wider than 23, engages with the upper and lower outer edges of the slot 19 and is provided with a notch, a spring urged pawl 25, pivoted to the bracket 6, co-operating with this notch to hold the blind roller in place. The ratchet wheel 31 is provided with a pawl 32 pivoted to the cup 20 and is frictionally connected to the cup 21 by means of a plate spring 34 and a washer 35 anchored to 21. The roller 12 can be rotated freely in one direction but can only be rotated in the opposite direction against the frictional resistance produced by the washer 35 and spring 34. The bracket 6 is provided with an elongated hole for one screw to permit slight adjustment of its position without removing this screw. The end caps 13 and 21, the cap 20 and the brackets 5 and 6 are formed from sheet metal by a pressing or stamping operation. The angle brackets 5 and 6 may be provided with flanged edges and with pressed out ribs 11 for strengthening purposes.
