Be it known that I, LioNnL Mesas, a citizen of the United States, residing at Provi-y The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which will hammer the silver by use ot' power as distinguished from the customary method ot hammering manually or by hand.
The invention aims to provide a deviceoiL this kind which is positive in action; which enables various forms of hammer heads to be substituted at will in an easy and quick manner, and which also is adjustable to vary the action of the hammer head, namely to strike a light or a heavy or hard blow to the silver. y

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a flexible drive shaft 1, is employed which can be rotated through suitable power of any type. A cam plate 2, is connected to the shaft 1, so as to be rotated thereby, and engages the head 3, of a striker 4. A guide member 5, is secured to the striker f1, by means of a cross-pin 6, the guide 5, operating between tracks 7, carried by a shank 8, the latter being partly enclosed by a sleeve 9, to which sleeve it is secured by a screw 10. The cam plate 2 is mounted in a housing 20, the latter having the upper ends of the tracks 7 suitably secured thereto. The lower end of the striker 4, is guided in t-he shank 8, as depicted in Fig. 1, the striker being tensioned by a coil spring 11, whiclrabuts the guide 5, the latter therefore affording an abutment for the spring, and an adjusting nut 12 mounted ony striker 4e, and between the tracks 7, being held by the latter against rotation but capable ot' longitudinal sliding movement therealong. For this purpose the tracks 7 are slotted at 21 to receive the threaded wings 22 of the nut 12. A knurled sleeve 13 threadedly engages about the nut wings 22 and by turning the sleeve, the nut 12 may be moved along the tracks so as to varythe tension of the spring 11, and thereby the blow of the striker, as 1s obvious. A spring 14, is disposed between the tracks and sleeve 9, so as to bear against the sleeve 13, and thus hold the latter against accidental movement.
A collar 15, slotted at 16, is threaded onto the lower end of the shank 8, and engages about the hammer 16, the latter having a head 17, and an intermediate cross-pin 18, the slot enablingthe collar to be disengaged from the hammer upon unthreading of the collar from the shank and then lateral movement of the collar to 'cause pin 18 ofthe hammer to move through the slot 16', to thereby allow a hammer with a different type of head 1T, such for instance as shown in Fig. 3, to be substituted.
In operation, it will be seen that the rotation of cam 2, will effect reciprocation of the striker 11, the action being dependent. upon the tension to which spring 11, is adjusted by rotation of sleeve 13. The striker will impact against hammer 1G, and the latter will in turn strike blows on and against the silver. The hammer is freely mounted in the shank 8, and its reciprocal movements are limited by the lower end of the shank and by the collar 15, as is obvious,` due to the presence of the pin 18.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a casing, a rotating cam therein, and means to rotate same, a striker having a head engageable by the cam so as to be actuated thereby, a guide borne by the striker, tracks for the guide, an adjustable member mounted over the striker, a spring between the member and guide so as to have its tension adjusted by the adjustment of the member, a hammer engageable with the striker, a cross-pin borne b y the hammer, and means engageable with the cross-pin to secure the hammer removably in placel 2. In a device of the type set forth, a casing, a striker movable therein, a nut adjust- 'able on the striker, means rotatably encircling the casing and connected to the nut t0 adjust the latter, a guide on the lower end part ot the striker engaging the interior of the casing, a spring encircling thestriker and engaged between the nut and guide, a hammer slidable in thecasing, and Vmeans to actuate the striker.
