Abstract
238,085. Evans, F. W. Sept. 22, 1924. Driving chains, adjusting. - Relates to cycles in which the hub of the rear wheel is provided with a chain sprocket 7, 8 at each side and the gear ratio is changed by withdrawing the wheel, turning it, and replacing it with a different sprocket in engagement with the driving chain 9. According to the invention, the axle is automatically positioned to give correct chain tension in either position by providing two pairs of abutments 10, 11 of different size. on the hub and a single pair of abutments on the cycle frame, the latter being formed by set screws 5 one arranged outside the cycle frame 2 and the other inside. In one position the pair of abutments 11 engages the screw abutments 5, while the other pair 10 is operative when the wheel is turned round. The hub may carry a single pair of abutments and the cycle frame two pairs. The abutments may be of circular shape.
