Abstract

237,878. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Lane, C. E.). July 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Loud - speakers; magnetic instruments; diaphragms. - A large direct acting conical diaphragm has an elliptic periphery. Preferably, the diaphragm is formed of two conical surfaces 6, 8 truncated obliquely to their axes so that each periphery is an ellipse. The edge of the surface 8 abuts against the inner portion of the surface 6 so that the edge 5 of the diaphragm is free to vibrate. The diaphragm is supported on a ring 13 at an opening in the rear face placed at right-angles to the axis. The ring 13 is carried by a standard 9 which also carries a bracket 12 for the telephone mechanism, the actuating rod 11 being along the axis of the front cone 6. This cone is formed from sheet material but may be in two sections 6, 7 the former of hard surfaced blotting paper and the latter of lighter and stiffer paper.
