Abstract

237,729. Palmer, H., and Palmer, W. July 30, 1924. Winding-machines.-In a vertical spindle yarnwinding machine in which the yarn is fed to the bobbins by guides which are traversed by a reciprocating bar and fed upwards by a screw and nut device, the screw 3 is rotated by a bevel &c. wheel 9, driven by a wheel 10 on a spindle 11 operated by a ratchet and pawl device 12, 19. The spindle 11 is mounted in a pivoted bearing 13 controlled by a finger 16 round which the yarn 17 passes. The tension on the yarn holds the gears 9, 10 in mesh. When the yarn slackens or breaks the spindle 11 tilts on its pivot 14 and the gear 1C moves out of mesh. The pawl 19 is carried on an adjustable standard 20.
