Abstract

227,013. Wildt & Co., Ltd., and Wildt, E. March 6, 1924. Winding-machines.-Relates to machines of the vertical spindle type for winding yarn upon conical or bottle bobbins and wherein the guide is traversed and fed upwards on its support to build the bobbin in a succession of conical layers. The disc 1, which is connected by a nut device 11 to the screwed rod 3 and controls the feed of the yarn guide, is operated by ratchet gearing 13, 14 during the fall of the reciprocating traverse bar 5 so that the guide is raised a distance slightly less than that necessary for the finest yam, and is further operated by contact with the yarn on the bobbin to complete the necessary movement of the guide corresponding to the thickness of the yarn. A lever 4 mounted on the bar 5 carries the disc 1 and the ratchet wheel 13, and is oscillated by a cam 7 so that movement is imparted to the wheel 13 by the pawl 14, which is carried by an arm 15 pivoted about the axis of the disc 1 and engaged by a stationary adjustable rod 16. The yarn guide 20 is carried by a wire or like finger 19 mounted on a collar, 18 fast on the pivot of the pawl, so that the tension of the yarn normally maintains the pawl in contact with the ratchet wheel, but upon breakage or running out the pawl runs idly. A pawl 22 prevents backward movement of the ratchet wheel. The disc 1 and the ratchet mechanism may be mounted on the traverse bar, and the pawl arm be operated by a rod on an oscillating lever or by an inclined rod.
