Steels. - A knife sharpener and scraper comprises a steel sharpening blade 4 and a guiding member 7 parallel thereto to keep the knife blade at the same angle throughout the stroke, both mounted on a handle 9. In one construction the back edge of the sharpening-blade 4 is secured to a round wooden rod or holder 6 enclosed in a metal sleeve 7 formed by bending a piece of sheet metal round the rod. One side of the guide may project farther beyond the face of the sharpening-blade than the other, as shown in Fig. 3, so that when working on a knife blade by alternate outward and inward strokes, the inward strokes, namely the weaker, may be made with the sharpener at the larger angle. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the blade 4 and guide 12 are secured separately to the handle 9.
