Abstract

V-slot and like blade sharpeners.-Comprises two metal plates a, Fig. 1, sufficiently wide to guide the knife blade, which plates are slightly concave on one side a' and are bent outwards at both ends a<2>. The plates are secured together by rivets a<3>, and at one of the bent ends are roughened or grooved; the rough end is used for rough sharpening and the smooth end is used for honing. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the plates are replaced by two pairs of rods b, of circular cross-section, held in position by a metal plate c and solder c<1>. In a modification of this construction, each pair of rods is replaced by a single rod bent into a loop; these constructions allow the sharpener to be turned on to its side and used as a knife or fork rest. The sharpener also may comprise two rods f only, as shown in Fig. 11, the blade being guided during sharpening by a guide-plate g having its ends g<2> bent and slotted at g<3>, and the rods being secured to the plate by solder g<1>. The plates or rods may be made of soft metal and case-hardened.
