Application filed March 6, 1919. Serial No. 280,982.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that, I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Stropping Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make, construct, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stro-pping devices, and more particularly to such as are adapted especially for stropping safety razor blades.
My invention has for its object, the production of a stropping device for safety razor blades having a frame adapted to slide longitudinally of a strop, a blade holder being pivotally supported in said frame, and means for rocking the blade holder and blade for stropping the edge in such a manner as to positively prevent the blade from cutting or injuring the strop.
Further objects of the invention are to increase the simplicity of construction and operation of the device by decreasing the number of parts of which the usual stropping device is composed; by lessening or avoiding the necessity of adjustment of the various parts and by increasing the manipulation of the device. To this end I have made many changes in this device from similar devices; all with the object of increased efficiency.
With these ends in view, my invention consists of certain noveltiesof construction and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim. While the preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, yet it is to be understood that minor changes may be made ,without departing from the scope thereof.

In the drawings, 1 represents the body or frame of my improved stropping device, which body or frame may be stamped from sheet metal or the like, and afterwards bent into the desired shape as shown. Said body or frame is made from a, single piece of suitable material and comprises two opposite side p-ortionsQ and 3 parallel each to each and connected by, preferably astraight body portion 4. The front and rear longitudinal edges of the body or frame are preferably bent upwardly to provide bearing or guiding surfaces 5-5 for the strop. The body portion 4% of the frame 1 is provided witha pair of integral downwardly extending apertured lugs 6-6 preferably struck out from said body portion 4% and by means of which the said body or frame 1 is pivotally connected to the apertured lugs ,7-7 of the handle 9, by means of. the rivets 88.
The handle 9 may be stamped from sheet metal or the like and afterwards bent into the desircdshap-e as shown. Said handle is made from a. suitable piece of suitable material and comprises two opposite side portions 101O parallel each to each, and connected by an upper cross piece 11 from which extend the integral oppositely arranged lugs 77. Journaled in the side portions 2'and 3 of the body or frame 1 is cylindrical rod or shaft 12, and a roller 13 to be engaged by the strop when the de vice is used for stropping the blade, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The top rod or shaft 12 carries the blade holder 14 which holder may consist of a piece of sheet metal wrapped around said rod or shaft 12 and secured thereto in any convenient manner, so as to provide resilient clamping jaws 15-15 to receive the razor blade 16 as has been common in general heretofore. One of the jaws 15 is preferably provided with an integral lug 17 which is adapted to be engaged by the razor blade to limit the forward movement thereof. The side portions 2 and 8 have upper and lower holes forming bearings for the ends of the cylindrical rod or shaft 12 and the roller 13, both extending transversely of the blade holder. The rod or shaft 12 and roller 13 are connected by means of pin ions'or gears 18'18, so that drawing the device along the strop will tend to turn the upper rod or shaft 12 carrying the blade holder 1a, and when the direction of sliding the device is reversed, the said upper rod or shaft 12 will be turned over according to the principles already well understood in the art, The manner of pivotally and yieldingly connecting the body or frame 1 of the device with the handle, as above described, provides positive means for preventing the cutting edge of the blade from cutting or gouging the stropduring the stropping operation.
The operationof the device is as follows:

present invention provides a very eflicient and exceedingly simple and inexpensive stropping device, the same being constructed of a minimum number of parts, which are of such shape as to lend themselves readily to manufacture by the use of suitable punches' and dies from ordinary sheet metal, and which parts are reduced to the simplest operative efficiency; and further,
the invention provides a safety razor stropping ClGVlCQlIl whlch the accidental cutting or injuring of the 'strop and blade is positively prevented. The forward and backward movement of the body or frame 1 is limited by the body portion 4 thereof, en-
gaging with either of the longitudinal edges or corners 19--19, of the cross piece ll'of the handle 9 which engagement limits the movement of the frame 1 in either direction.
Experience has demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly elficient one, and while I have shown the preferred embodiment of my present invention, I do not wish to be limited to the exactdetails of construction shown and described,
as obvious modifications thereof, not involving the-exerciseof invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic,-and such departures from what is herein setforth, I consider within the scope and terms offmy claim.
I claim A razor stropping device comprising a frame made from a single piece of suitable sheet material adapted to slide longitudinally'of a strop, said frame comprising a body portion and two opposite side porftions parallel each to each, said body portion being provided with an upwardly struckf strengthening rib or head at'each edge and a pair of integral downwardly eX tending apertured lugs, a handle made from a single piece of suitable sheet material, said handle comprising two opposite side portions parallel each to each and connected by an upper ci'osspiece having bac-kwar'dly struck ears lapped by said lugs and pivotally connected to said lugs so that the said upper cross face of the handle engages with the under part of the body portion of the frame for limiting the movement of the frame.
