Foundations ; paving tramways. - Tram rails are laid on wooden blocks located in separate spaced recesses in the concrete foundation 3, the block with its fibres transverse, to the rail resting on a resilient layer or plate 4. The block may entirely fill the recess or may be secured in place by keys or wedges 5 composed of new or old wood, pavement waste, or bricks. Bricks 8 or concrete form an abutment for the paving stones 9. The foundations 3 may extend across the track to receive a layer of sand 10, Fig. 4, and paving stones 9, or may be confined to each rail, Fig. 6, and be connected by concrete 12 covered by asphalt 11 or small paving stones.
