Driving-gea,r; engines with main shaft parallel to axis of cylinder.-In a fixed cylinder engine in which the cylinders are disposed parallel to a crank shaft driven through mechanism of the swash-plate type, the arms of the swashplate are free to move relatively to one another in the plane of the swash-plate. The arms i, Fig. 2, are formed separately and are free to rotate on a boss f, upon which they are held by screwed rings k. The rings k also hold altogether the boss f, which is longitudinally divided to permit assembly. In a modification, all save one of the arms i of the swash-plate mechanism are ringed to the boss f in the plane of the swash-plate. The arms i project through slots in the sides of the double-ended pistons and engage central gudgeon pins c<2>, Fig. 3, having transverse bores in which the arms are free to slide, these gudgeon pins being secured in position by means of screwed members c<1>.
