Vacuum closures; cam mechanism above closure; stoppers with valves.- In a closure for preserving vessels in which a lid d is pressed against the flange b of the vessel by a spring clamp i arranged diametrically across it, a cross-bar k pivoted to the clamp i by a tubular rivet is adapted to engage two protuberances l during the heating of the vessel to press the lid on to the vessel whilst leaving a ball valve g in the centre of the lid free to act, the bar being turned into line with the clamp, when the heating has been effected, to act upon the ball and complete the hermetic closure of the lid. The protuberances, which may be segmental in shape or take the form of inclined ribs, are of greater height than the ball g.
