Abstract
235,610. Herden, W. Feb. 19, 1924. Addition to 211,864. Spinning.-The machine described in the parent Specification is provided with a vertical joint m between the slotted bar k and the roller so that this can swivel automatically or by hand when the former c has a reflex curve. The roller p is pressed towards the former c by a bell crank pivoted at s. A weight q is moved along the arm a of the bell crank by a lever W having an adjustable pivot z, a link x which is pivoted at a point y having adjustable eccentricity relative to the pin h. Thus the pressure of the weight increases as the roller p travels from the centre of the former c but it is relatively decreased if the roller carrier n is turned about the joint m in a direction reverse to that in which bar k has been turned about the pin h. The speed at which the weight A, for moving the roller, falls is limited by a ratchet wheel F secured to one wheel C and geared to another wheel D over which the cord T passes. The ratchet wheel is engaged by a pawl J on a worm wheel H driven at a slow speed as shown. In a modification the weight q, Fig. 3, is arranged to compress fluid in a cylinder 1 which connected by a pipe 3 to a cylinder 2 in which moves a plunger 6 carrying the roller p which can be withdrawn by a handoperated self-locking device 8. The effect of the weight is modified by a weight 9 which is connected to it by a rod 10 resting on a fixed roller 11 and hence acts in the reverse direction and produces similar results to the first modification.
