Abstract
235,497. Barrett, H. R., and Lake & Elliot, Ltd. Feb, 9, 1925. Jacks.-A screw jack has an inner non-rotating screw member 1 and an outer rotating screw member 2 which co-operates with the inner member and is rotated and moved longitudinally in relation to its casing by bevel gears 10, 13. The screw 1 is in threaded engagement with the upper end of the screw 2 and is slidably but non-rotatably mounted in the plate 4. The screw 2 is rotatably mounted in a plate 3 which is connected to the plate 4 by rods 5 slidably mounted in bearings 6 in the casing 7. The screw 2 is in threaded engagement with the gear 10 which rests on an extension 11 of the casing 7 and is kept in place by a plate 12. Overrunning is prevented by forming a groove 20 near the lower end of the screw 2 and by providing a spring ring 22 at the upper end to engage a recess in the upper face of the gear 10. A similar spring ring 23 at the lower end of the screw 1 prevents its withdrawal from the screw 2. In a modification, the lower end of the screw 1 is provided with a non-circular extension which engages a similarlyshaped tubular member disposed within the screw 2 and slibably mounted, but held against rotation, in the casing 7.
