Abstract
321,525. Hill, S., and Hill, E. Oct. 9, 1928. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Jacks. - A multipleextension screw jack of the kind having screwed members telescoping one within the other and a gear wheel at the bottom of the outermost member has a spring-pressed projection engaging a groove in the intermediate member so as to prevent it from rotating until it is fullv extended or withdrawn. The outer sleeve 3 has an enlargement 3a at its upper end resting in an enlargement at the upper end of the casing 5 and is rotated by a toothed wheel 4 at its lower end. The upper end of the outer sleeve has an internal screw thread 13 engaging the screwed intermediate sleeve 2 which has a similar engagement with the crutch stem 1. A longitudinal groove in the intermediate sleeve is engaged by a projection 19, Fig. 6, on a plate 19b pivotally mounted on the casing and having an apertured extension 19<c> engaged by a locating stud 21 carrying a spring pressing against the plate. In operation the projection is engaged with the groove to prevent the rotation of the intermediate member except at the upper and lower limits of movement when it is withdrawn from the groove by the tapered ends of the threads.
