Lighting, systems of. -In an arrangement of auditorium and screen for the projection of kinematograph or like pictures, the projection apparatus is arranged in front of the screen to project directly thereon, and the screen is arranged in a darkened space adjacent to an illuminated space or auditorium, and is separated therefrom by a partition having an aperture through which the screen may be viewed and the pictures projected. In one form, Fig. 3, the projector 2 and spectators are situated in a room 9 illuminated by lamps 5 with shades 5<1> for preventing the light from falling on the screen, the darkened chamber for the screen 1 being formed by an apertured partition 10. In another form, the screen 1, Fig. 4, may be situated in the open for projection by night, projection and viewing of the pictures taking place through an aperture 4 in one of the walls of a lighted chamber 3 in which the projector 2 and spectators are situated. In a further form, Fig. 2, adapted also for daylight projection and having the screen 1 in a darkened chamber 6, the open space 8 occupied by the spectators is illuminated at night by lamps 5 provided with suitable shades 5<1> or partly extinguished to prevent light falling on the screen 1. Where a lighted chamber is provided for the spectators the lamps may be suspended from the ceiling or walls or placed over or under the floor, which in the latter case. may be transparent. Movable or flxed lamp shades may be employed.
