CABIN FOR LIGHT-PRODUCING DEVICES.

My invention has Vfor its object a cabin inside which the device producing the light necessary chiefly for photographic purposes is produced either through ignitingflash powany other means.v The essential feature of this cabin resides in its trapezoidal shape, the longer side facing the part which it is desired to illuminate whereby the light produced is refiected by the three other sides so as to converge in the desired direction land to provide the maximum illumination of the object to be photographed.
IVhen the source of light is Hash-powder, cabin is entirely closed so as to avoid any dust from being projected after ignition. In this case all the sides are of opaque material such as metal except the long front side which is transparent and made of fireproof canvas.
The ignition of the powder can be pro- -duced by any suitable device; my invention relates in particular to a very simple and convenient form of execution of such a decan be executed either for workshop purposes in which case it is stationary or for booth purposes and the like in which case it is portable. In this latter case the whole casing may be made of fire-proof canvas, the front side remaining alone transparent; this canvas cabin is preferably made up like a pair of bellows and is hung so as to blow away the smoke through suitable apertures after each ignition through the action of these bellows. I have shown two forms of execution of my invention on appended drawings by way of example:

All the sides reflect the light emitted by the luminous source except the transparent front side 2 which Vis preferably closed like the other sides especially if the luminous source is constituted by flash powder such as magnesium.
In this latter case the rear wall 3 bears a suitable number ofapertures 4 adapted to be ciosed .each by a double pivoting shutter one of the leaves 5 of which is outside the wall 3 and the other 5 is inside the said wall. rlhe two leaves are secured to each other by a small plate 6 bearing the magnesium burner or burners 7.
These burners are connected through wires 8 to contact pieces 9 borne by t-he inner leaf 5 of the shutter. These contact pieces come, when the shut-ter closes the aperture 4, against the contact parts l0 secured to the inside of one of the lateral walls of the cabin 1. These contact parts are connected with the terminals of an electric circuit comprising a supply 1l and a switch 12 common to all the circuits corresponding to the several burners (Fig. 6).
Evidently when the shutter 5-5 closes the aperture the contact pieces 9 come against the contacts l0 and if the general switch 12 is closed, the current will iow through 10, 9 and 7 and thence back to the supply by any suitable means. For instance, as shown, each burner may be double and the current may return by means of a spark through the second Contact 9-10 borne as shown by the shutter. Thus the burners 7 will be ignited. The light intensity produced can be adjusted by adjusting the number of burners used, each of these being provided with its own switch.
lVhen the shutter does not close the aperture 4, no contact is produced between parts 9 and 10 whereby early ignition is prevented.
Of course, as stated hereinbefore, the igniting device can be executed in any suitable manner besides that which has been described.
The portable cabin shown on Figs. 7 and S has also trapezoidal cross-section (Fig. 8). All the walls thereof are of fireproof canvas and act as a pair of bellows. The arrangement is suitably hung up and only the front wall is translucd. The bottom shows in its center a circular hole 11i adapted to he closed by a plup,` l5 bearing` the magnesium burner. llt can he removed from outside through a handle not shown Vprojecting` outside the cabin and is provided with an outlet holewall of the casing; and each adapted to close a corresponding hole in the said Wall, said shutters each consisting` of two vertical leaves secured together along the pivoting axis or the shutter and disposed respectively 1 inside and outside the casing and a horizontal pla-'te connecting` the two leaves together, burners borne by the plate o'li eac-h shutter and means for ignitmg said burners.

Ina cabin as claimed in claim l, contact pieces borne hy the inner leaf of each shutter and electrically connected with the correspending` burner, contact parts disposed inside the casing and adapted to hear against the said Contact pieces in their inner position, an electric supply, electric circuits connecting the supply with the burners and a switch common to said circuits.
