Abstract
235,037. Spaninger, F. Aug. 5, 1924. Pencil - sharpeners. - A pencil sharpener a, Figs. 2 and 3, comprises an ordinary sharpening- device for the wood, consisting of an adjustable knife blade d projecting into a slot c in a conical bore b, and a separate sharpener for the lead consisting of two juxtaposed elastic knife blades h, each blade having two cutting- edges i, i<1>. Each blade h, Figs. 3 and 6, consists of two thin blades connected at the lower end into the form of a clamp and provided with incisions h<1> at the lower end to prevent breaking of the sharpened point. The blades h are sprung into position in a bore g and retained by engagement of flaps k on the blades in cavities l of the bore g. The four adjacent edges of the two complete blades form a conical guide for the lead. The blades can be reversed to change the cutting edges. A transverse bore is provided on the end of the core to collect the escaped graphite. A file o may be fixed in a groove in the body of the sharpener. Behind the bore g is provided another bore n to hold spare knife blades.
