Abstract

815. Jensen, S., and Grover, O. T. Jan. 18. Pencil - sharpeners; finger - guides; guards for pencils.-A pencilsharpener comprises a substantially tubular member 6 adapted to slide on a pencil and formed with two clamping-lugs 10, 11, a slot divided into two portions 12, 13 by a bridge 15, ears 16 projecting inwardly from the edges of the slot 13, and a removable blade 8 held in position between the cars 16 and the bridge 15 by means of a spring tongue 17. The blade 8 is provided with a finger 19 adapted to engage with a slot 18 in the spring tongue 17, and with shoulders 22 adapted to bear against shoulders 21 on the tongue. The edge of the blade projects across the slot 12, so that a pencil may be sharpened by inserting the pencil-point through the slot 12, the blade being then in position to cut the wood. When not in use as a sharpener, the member 6 is clamped on the pencil and serves either as a finger-rest when the pencil is being used, or as a means for preventing rolling of the pencil.
